RESIDENTS have been encouraged to have their say on a scheme designed to improve road safety in their town.
The scheme is aimed at reducing accidents along the busy section of Biddick Lane/Fatfield Road, in Washington, and to help make it easier for pedestrians and other road users to cross.
Records show that there have been nine accidents over the past three years, one involving serious injury and eight involving slight injuries.
Seven of the accidents involved pedestrians.
A public exhibition of the scheme showing proposals which include a bus stop clearway, speed cushions, two zebra crossings and a mini roundabout will take place in Biddick Comprehensive School, Biddick Lane, Washington, from Monday, February 9, to Friday, February 13.
Engineers from Sunderland City Council's development and regeneration directorate will be present on the Monday to discuss proposals.
Transport head Andy Morris said: "We believe the proposals we have come up with will have a positive impact in terms of reducing the number of accidents along this road.
"But we're very keen to hear what local people think and we would encourage them to go along and have a look at the plans and fill in the questionnaire."
