A MAN arrested for murder was last night released on police bail pending inquiries.

Detectives on Teesside had been granted extra time to question a 26-year-old Middlesbrough man about the death of 31-year-old heroin addict Darren Manders, whose decomposed remains were found partially concealed under a pile of logs in Starvation Clump plantation, near Middlesbrough, last summer.

Detective Superintendent Karnail Dulku, the man leading the hunt for the killers of Mr Manders, yesterday won a 12-hour extension to question the suspect, whom they released hours before the time ran out.

Father-of-three Mr Manders was last seen alive near his Bow Street, Middlesbrough, home on June 5, last year.

A dog walker discovered his body in the copse, on the edge of Nunthorpe, near Middlesbrough, on July 2.

Det Supt Dulku praised his team's "unshakeable tenacity and determination" following the arrest of the suspect on Monday.
