MEASURES to combat traffic problems at one of Hambleton's most popular tourist spots come into force next week.
Cars parked illegally around Cod Beck, near Osmotherley, will receive a £30 fine after a Clearway Order was placed on a two-mile stretch of road between Swainby and Osmotherley.
The order, which will be reviewed after 18 months, is the result of multi-agency work by the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership.
Community safety officer PC Phil Bird said: "In the Cod Beck area of Osmotherley problems with camping, litter, drinking and traffic have repeatedly been raised."
"Cars parking illegally on the approach road to the reservoir have been spoiling the enjoyment of the beauty spot for the local community and visitors.
"There is car parking provision in the area - we want to see only that being used and wipe out the random parking along the roadside."
The order, which covers the road from Cote Ghyll Caravan Park to the cattle grid at Scarth Nick, means cars can only park in designated parking areas.
PC Bird said that walkers visiting the area by car would be advised of alternative walks with car parking areas, which could be taken up on busy days. He said assesments were being carried out to decide if improvements to parking facilities could be made.
l The Community Safety Partnership's Mobile Police Unit will be at Cod Beck Reservoir this weekend to warn people of the fines.
