ONE of County Durham's oldest residents is still enjoying a daily feast of her favourite chocolates at the age of 102.
Sweet-toothed Mary Wilkes celebrated her birthday on Wednesday with a party at West Lodge Nursing Home, Billy Row, near Crook, where she has lived since 1992.
She marked her birthday by enjoying to her usual serving of Maltesers. She regularly eats half a box and was sent a huge parcel by makers Mars two years ago when she reached 100.
Mrs Wilkes grew up in Billy Row and stayed in the mining village after her marriage. Before she had her family she worked at a local brickworks.
Lindsey Maddox, activities co-ordinator at the home, said: "All the staff are very fond of her.
"Most of them have been here a long time, so they have got to know her well.
"She can't get through the day without her half box of Maltesers."
