AN animal rescue organisation is inviting individuals and companies to sponsor stray and unwanted pets through its website.
Saltburn Animal Rescue Association (Sara) has set up the sponsor scheme to help look after animals which cannot be rehomed and remain in the association's care for the rest of their lives.
Cygnet Family Law, of Portland House, West Dyke Road, Redcar, which gives Sara free legal advice, is the first to sponsor the scheme.
The company has sponsored seven-year-old Barnie, who has been with Sara since 2000 when his owner brought him in saying he had "gone vicious". But Sara said they have seen no signs of aggression in him and he lives with a foster carer.
Solicitor Peter Medd said: "I have met Barnie and he is full of fun.
"Our staff will also be sponsoring another animal by having sponsorship money deducted direct from their wages."
Pam Hildreth, of Sara, said: "All you have to do is choose your favourite animal from the website.
"You can donate as much or as little as you wish and either taken the standing order to your bank, or send it to us and we will forward it."
Anyone interested in sponsoring can log on to www.s-a-r-a.org.uk
Packs with pictures and information about the animals can also be posted out by calling (01287) 201005.
