A VILLAGE operatic society is preparing for a blockbusting production - complete with a legion of winged angels.
Lanchester and District Choral and Amateur Operatic Society will stage Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe at St Bede's Comprehensive School at 7.15pm from February 11 to 13.
Iolanthe first appeared on the London stage more than 100 years ago.
Londoners were treated to Parliament being humorously ridiculed with comic characters - with a legion of fairies using their magic to control the government.
David Hughes wields the baton and produces the operetta, while the principals are Sharon Murray, Richard Woods, Gordon Knighton, Margaret Woods, Anne Marie Ashman, Paul Davison and Harry Watson.
Tickets are £5 (concessions £4 and children £2.50). A child accompanied by an adult on the Wednesday gets in free. Tickets can be obtained from any society member or by contacting 0191-410 6082.
