SOME of the region's strongest men are lining up to compete for one of their sport's most sought-after titles.
Spennymoor Leisure Centre is hosting the North East Qualifier for Britain's Strongest Man in March. The competition is being organised by former Britain's Strongest Man finalist Allan Turner and local favourites such as Eddie Ellwood, Tim Thacker, Stumpy Raines and Lee Bowers will be among the competitors. They will battle it out in events such as the log lift, dead lift, arm over arm and the medley.
Crowds are expected to turn out for the official IFSA event on March 6, with the final planned for Scarborough later this year.
Admissions is £4 or tickets can be bought in advance from Mr Turner at Cuts' N'Curves, of Front Street, Leadgate, Consett, on (01207) 583430.
