The Middlesbrough Zetland Trophy produced six double figured weights even though the Swale was carrying a foot above normal and had started to rise again later in the match.

Top North-East rod RSPS Tek Neek Trabucco's Ken Close left the rest well and truly behind giving a super top and bottom float show, which resulted in 18 small chub for a terrific catch of 31.6.0.

Sat in the top plantation at Ainderby, Ken edged the float down a farside slack and caught his fish on both caster and wasp grub hookbaits.

Best of the rest in the frame was Brotherton's Adrian Evans feeder fishing wasp grub off the end peg at Gatenby to land five chub for 14.5.0.

Others: Mick Walton (Ryburn) 13.8.0; Stuart Tate (Helperby) 13.7.0; John Milligan (Stockton) 11.12.0; Steve Newns (KL Tackle) 10.10.0.

Chub once again decided the winner on the River Tees during the Yarm AA Prince Charles Trophy from a venue still carrying colour and extra flow.

Yarm Flynn's Dave Pearce lifted the coveted trophy when he recorded 14.6.0 from peg 141 downstream of Fisheries Bend.

Spending most of his time on the feeder and bread three-quarters across and occasionally on the cheese, 16 chublets responded before a sprinkling of dace put in a late appearance on the stickfloat and maggot.

Only other double came from Diawa Cleveland's Dave Harris who finished with 10.14.0.

Dave initially took two chub on the feeder but the bulk of his return consisted of dace caught on the slider float and maggot down the middle off peg 183 followed jointly by Brian O'Keefe (Yarm Flynns) and Neil Waters (Yarm Flynns) 9.14.0.

Darlington's Martin Chapman romped home with a clear victory during the Knaresborough Piscatorials Open on the Nidd.

Fishing peg 69, situated on the sawmills length at Scotton, Martin edged stickfloat and maggot through connecting with 7 chub and 6 grayling for a runaway net of 18.8.0.

Weights then dropped dramatically and runner up Cliff Lofthouse on peg 63 built up an all grayling score of 6.10.0 on the same tactics from Durham's John Hay 5.15.0.

A foot of extra water equates to a flood on Yorkshire's tiny Swale tributary Cod Beck and Sunday's depleted turnout always knew it was going to be a really tough match.

Eden Meadows Chris Park doubled the next best weighing in 6.2.0 of all dace on the pole and maggot above the sands.

Tadcaster's latest open proved a dace and roach affair with most seeing some action on the Smaws Ings match length of the River Wharfe and the locals demonstrated their skills.

Boston Spa's Dennis Geldard one below the cow drink at peg 59, worked his magic on the stickfloat and maggot for a mixed net of 6.4.8.

Two swims downstream. Anglers World man Chris Burton needed a big perch of 1.8.0 to boost his dace catch and snatch second place with 4.9.0 from Ossett 's John Briggs.

Carp Scene

Woodland Lakes (Wednesday) 58 rods: 1 A Warren (Elton Tackle) 40.7.0 all carp to maggot feeder off peg 5 Kestrel Lake; 2 G Poole (Map Elton) 29.14.0; 3 J Chapman (Map Elton) 22.2.0.

Weights improved for Saturday's match on the complex and 'in form' Kestrel Lake dominated the results with five out of the top 6 anglers all pegged there.

Kerr's John Thompson decided on a bomb and corn approach off peg three and was rewarded when a carp bag of 49.1.0 got the verdict as John tempted samples up to 4.0.0.

Wednesday's winning peg five delivered the goods for runner up Bob Co's Bernard Guy who replied with 45.3.0 on the feeder and maggot.

Sunday's Match, All Match Lakes - 57 rods: 1 P Riley (Elton Tackle) 31.8.0 of carp to pole and corn off Dragonfly 10; 2 P Shephard (Merlin Baits) 23.10.0; 3 K Adcock (Elton Tackle) 21.2.0.

Oaks Sessay Cedar Pool - (Thursday): 1 S Newbury (Darlington AC) 46.11.0; 2 J Brodan (Spring Close) 39.3.0; jt 3 C Hall (Oaks) & I Fieldhouse (Waterline Wibsey) 34.3.0.

Small carp went on a feeding frenzy at the Oaks on Sunday for the 64 competitors.

Diawa Goldthorpe's Daryl Taylor fronted a string of impressive winter weights when he bagged 38.2.0.

Opting for the maggot Daryl picked up fish to the pound catching down the track and over to the far side off Cedar's peg 70.

Identical tactics paid off for Waterline Wibsey regular Tim Moran who fished further along at peg 61 and registered 34.7.0 at the scales.
