AN OPERATIC society has launched an urgent appeal for help to find storage space for its scenery.

Containers are used by Spennymoor Operatic Society to create and store scenery for its popular productions, but the land they are kept on, which the society rents for a nominal fee, is wanted for building work.

De Hickson, the society's treasurer, said a new site for the containers was urgently needed, because the present site had to be vacated by March 1.

She said: "We would like to hear from anyone who would be able to rent out a small piece of land, within reasonable distance of Spennymoor, that is about 50ft by 40ft, to put the containers on. We have four containers that we put on top of each other.

"We make our own scenery because it is financially viable and because the stage is difficult to hire scenery for."

Help is also being sought to move the containers after the society was told it could cost about £1,500.

Mrs Hickson said: "Hopefully, someone with a crane or the right sort of equipment to move the storage containers will come forward to help us.''
