PUPILS' experiences in the great outdoors are being portrayed on a mural.
The finishing touches are being put to the painting which takes up two walls at Burnside Primary School, in Houghton-le-Spring.
About 40 ten and 11-year-olds, all members of year six classes at the school, came up with ideas for the mural.
Most are based on regular visits made by parties of Burnside pupils to Derwent Hill, an outdoor activity centre in Cumbria.
They have received expert advice from community artist Gavin Mayhew, who usually works from a studio in Wolsingham, in Weardale.
He was commissioned by the school to assist with the mural project and made twice weekly visits to help incorporate the children's suggestions.
Youngsters can be seen participating in outdoor activities in the countryside setting.
