RISING young singing star Jordan Louise Roseberry hopes to hit the high notes in support of a young family friend who is suffering from a life-threatening illness.

The 11-year-old singer will take centre stage in a charity concert on Saturday, being staged to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Jordan Louise, the daughter of former Durham county cricket captain Michael Roseberry, will be joined by classical singing star Graeme Danby and other North-East musicians at the Newcastle Opera House.

The Durham High School pupil has been touched by the plight of two-year-old Dylan Fleming-Jones, the son of her mother's best friend.

He suffers from cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic disease which effects the lungs and digestive system.

Dylan, of West Rainton, must endure two or three daily bouts of physiotherapy to clear his lungs of mucus. He must also take a daily dose of medicine, including enzyme pills before every meal.

Jordan Louise, of Witton Gilbert, who has already raised £1,300 for the trust singing in live performances round the region, said: "I've known Dylan since he was born and so I really appreciate what a terrible disease cystic fibrosis is.

"I feel it's important that I do whatever I can to help find a cure to make Dylan better." She hopes to perform to a packed house at the concert, which starts at 7.30pm.

Jordan Louise, who has just been awarded a BBC Fame Academy bursary of £1,200 to help to buy musical equipment, will be singing Memories, from the musical Cats.

The show is compered by BBC Radio's Julia Hankin, and also features Chester-le-Street Riverside Brass Band. For tickets, costing £7.50, call (0191) 232 0899.
