Ten-year-old Paul Clifford was voted athlete of the month against the performances of some of his senior colleagues after some tremendous performances in the indoor minor athletes league that took place at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow over the last three months.
After winning or coming second in every 60m and 200m race that he entered he won the series overall and was awarded the winner's trophy at the prize giving.
Darlington Harriers are not only competing in the Young Athletes track & field league this summer but are also hosting two rounds of the competition at Eastbourne Sports Complex, as well as two rounds of the NYSD summer league. But before the track season starts and the athletes have a well earned rest they have the final round of the cross country season at Richmond school on Sunday where the men's team are hoping to hold onto third place, and the road relays, which take place at Locke Park in Redcar on Sunday, March 28 where they will be looking forward to some good team performances.
* The Harriers train at Eastbourne from 6.15 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If you want to train with some of the best athletes at the best facility in the area come up and have a go, or ring John Brant on 01325 257672 for further details.
