A Harrogate side's victory bid was dealt a cruel injury blow. Harrogate Squash looked to be on course for a win against north Leeds side Adel in Division One.

But disaster struck when Tony Nowakowski had to pull out of his clash against Mark Ambler mid-way through the second game.

Nowakowski, who suffered a hamstring injury, had lost the opening game 0-9 but bounced back to lead 5-3 in the second when he was forced to leave the court.

Harrogate's first string Stuart Macdonald secured his side's lone rubber, beating Jonty Hodgson 9-4 9-6 3-9 9-4 while Gate's Nicola Pratt went down 1-9 1-9 3-9 to Steve Glynn.

The win put Adel into second place but they are 23 points adrift of Chapel Allerton who are hot favourites for the championship.

Adel picked up ten points, with Squash taking three.

Meanwhile Chapel consolidated their position at the top of the table by winning a key challenge against Harrogate Squash II 2-1.

Harrogate Squash II are now jointly third with Ilkley on 140 points.
