Sunderland Arrows won both of their English Under-16 North A League away matches at the weekend.
The Wearsiders already safe from the promotion/relegation play-offs met teams below them in the table. Bradford Pirates hosted Arrows on Saturday and kept them at bay until the first minute of the second period.
Richard Westgarth put Arrows ahead at 15.34 and Nathan Salem doubled the lead 35 seconds later., Aiden Parker extended the scoreline to 3-0 in the 20th minute.
Richard Lawson in Arrows' net was beaten at 31.14 for Bradford's lone reply. Sunderland replied with a Mark Robson strike followed by Westgarth's second goal of the game at 36.21 for a 5-12 victory.
Their second match was a local derby at Hillheads against Whitley Tomahawks played in a typical local fervour. Whitley needing a victory to have a chance of escaping the relegation play-offs went ahead in the second minute through Mark Nicholson.
Sunderland equalised on the powerplay in the 12th minute with a Jeremy Lundin goal. Two goals in 90 seconds early in the middle period from Richard Westgarth and Aiden Parker eased Arrows 3-1 ahead.
Parker's goal at 19.55 sparked a little fracas which resulted in Arrows' Mark Robson getting a match penalty for head -butting.
Nicholson's second goal three minutes into the final period cut the deficit only to see Sunderland reply with two goals in under a minute from Martyn Davies and Callum Pattison to go 5-2 ahead at 36.04.
Nathan Taylor scored Whitley's third at 40.58 and Karl on became Sunderland's second player to leave the game when he made comments to the referee following the goal. He received two ten minute misconducts.

Sunderland Apaches visited Kingston River Rats in an Under-11 Challenge match at Hull ice Arena. A close contest for most of the game until Kingston scored three times in the final two minutes to earn a 6-3 victory.
Adam Perrie equalised for Apaches in the final minute of the first period after Kingston scored at 11.45. River Rats twice restored their lead only for Perrie and Alex Lawson to tie the scores at 3-3 at 36.53.
Scott Conway son of former Durham Wasp forward Kevin Conway hit his hat trick marker to give Kingston the lead again two minutes later and bagged another two in the final minute. Conway finished up with 5-0 in his side's 6-3 win.

Billingham Pumas picked up two welcome points against leaders Solihull Kings at Forum Ice Arena. the English under 12 North B League game going 4-3 in Pumas favour.
Pumas challenging for promotion alongside Solihull and Flintshire went ahead in the final minute of the opening period through Robert Heale. Solihull equalised 20 seconds into the second period and Billingham responded with two middle period strikes from James Moss and Stephen Simcox. Joe Watson fired Pumas 4-1 ahead three minutes into the final period.
Solihull hit back with two goals in 30 seconds in the 37th minute to set up a thrilling final three minutes, Pumas holding out for a valuable victory.

In Women's Division One North Billingham Wildcats came close to defeating league leaders Telford Wrekin Raiders at Forum Ice Arena, Telford edging home 3-2.

In the League second placed Whitley Bay Squaws were held to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Vipers. Squaws scorers: Sarah Christie 1+0.
English National Hockey League North
Sunderland Chiefs finished their League campaign with three matches in five days. All ended in defeats which resulted in Chiefs propping up the table, the first time that Sunderland finished the season in bottom place. The first of those three games was at Forum Ice Arena against Billingham Bombers which Bombers were well on top.
Chiefs were never in the game and only had nine shots on Bombers netminders, Adam Flett and Richard Griffiths. Bombers were convincing 12-0 winners with ten different goalscorers.
A second match in succession where Chiefs have failed to find the net. Robert Dowd and Simon Hehir each with 2+1, were Bombers' top scorers.

On Saturday Chiefs were away to Sheffield Scimtars at Ice Sheffield hoping to break the run of two games without scoring. Sheffield went ahead in only 28 seconds and at 04.27 on his Chiefs debut 15-year-old Chris Hayes equalised.
Scimtars led 7-1 before Michael Allinson scored Chiefs second at 56.33. Sheffield added an eighth to complete the scoring in an 8-2 win.
Their final game was a battle for the Wooden Spoon at Bradford Bulldogs. Bulldogs against the run of play led 2-0 after the first period. Chiefs outshot themselves in the middle period were level at 29.17 with goals from Allinson and Sean Alderson. Richard Danskin and Allinson fired Chiefs 4-2 ahead in the 37th minute.
Bradford hit back in the final period and scored four without reply to win 6-4 and leap above Chiefs at the foot of the table. This giving Chiefs the Wooden Spoon.
