A SCHOOL celebrated World Book Day by inviting an author to assembly to talk to the children about her latest book.
Mother-of-two Amanda Robinson realised some aspects of information technology could be difficult for under-tens to grasp, so together with artist Margaret Hardaker, she dreamt up the characters from Computer Land.
Pupils from Leyburn County Primary School, in Wensleydale were the first to meet them.
Ms Robinson, 39, needed little introduction because she works as a teaching assistant at the school, where she specialises in computer training.
She said: "The school has been fantastic and very supportive.
The children were so excited when I came into the assembly, even though some of the teachers have already been using the first Computer Land story in their lessons."
Ms Robinson was asked to explain where her ideas came from, before children were invited to ask questions.
She said: "They have been talking about it all day, which is really encouraging, particularly if it means they find computers easier to understand."
The school is running a competition, in which the children will be asked to come up with a new character who may be included in future stories.
