A headteacher is back behind his desk after suffering a heart attack while fell-walking before Christmas.
During his sick leave from Shotton Hall School, Peterlee, County Durham, Ian Mowbray spent his time rebuilding his fitness.
He said: "I was devastated to be away from school for so long, but I am very grateful for the excellent job my colleagues have done in my absence in keeping everything running smoothly."
Mr Mowbray said: "I am probably fitter now than I have been for many years and I look forward with relish to the challenge that lies ahead to make Shotton Hall School the very best of all schools.''
Mr Mowbray has been hail-ed in local and national education circles for the turnaround of the comprehensive school under his headship.
His heart attack, which happened in Cumbria, shocked staff and pupils and his return to work has been welcomed by all.
Mr Mowbray thanked all those who have supported him during his convalescence.
"My enforced absence gave me time to think, and the many kind wishes I received during my rehabilitation were both heartwarming and reassuring,'' he said.
