ELDERLY people and students in east Cleveland are fighting for a bus route to be resumed.
More than 200 people have signed a petition for the number 22 bus, which runs from New Marske to Middlesbrough, to be routed back along Laburnum Road and Winchester Road, in east Redcar.
Arriva North East changed the route in January, and the service now goes via Greenstones Road, on the new Ings Estate.
Councillor Jean White said: "We have a lot of elderly people and students living in east Redcar who rely on the bus service to get to Middlesbrough. It is a considerable walk to find another stop. The strange thing is that the bus does come back on to Laburnum Road at night, when hardly anyone wants to use it."
An Arriva spokesman said: "Service 22 in Redcar was rerouted away from Winchester Road because of safety concerns over the number of parked cars narrowing the road."
He apologised to those who were affected, but asked people to recognise that the change was made primarily on safety grounds.
