PLANS for a betting shop are expected to be approved despite objections.
Scottish and Newcastle Pub Enterprises has applied for permission to build the facility next to the Falcon Pub, in Hilda Park, South Pelaw.
Chester-le-Street district councillors will consider the plans today. They have received three letters of objection.
Opponents say the town has enough betting shops and the proposal will encourage more people to gamble. It is also felt the development would increase traffic and be detrimental to the area.
In a report to the planning committee meeting, officers say traffic would pose no problem because the pub car park is capable of accommodating an increase in vehicles.
