A FORMER competitive cyclist is offering a £1,000 reward to anyone who can help catch the thieves who stole his expensive bikes.
The rider, who does not want to be named, lost nearly £12,000 worth of bikes, tools and other equipment in a raid on his farm in the West Auckland area early on Friday.
The three stolen machines were all built to a distinctive design and are easily recognisable.
One was a new orange KTM 200 Endoro off-road motorbike worth £4,300.
The two mountain bikes stolen were a £1,100 red and white Specialised Stump Jumper, and a blue and white Cannondale works team bike, which is one of only three in the UK.
The owner said: "This is a very specialised piece of equipment with a manufacturer's value of £5,000. I would know it anywhere."
The reward is offered to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crimedesk at Bishop Auckland police station on (01388) 603566, extension 2379.
