POLICE are searching for two young people who tried to enter a number of houses in a Teesdale village.
At 5pm on Friday, a boy and girl in their teens visited Eggleston, and were seen inside a house in Garden Bank. They had earlier been seen knocking on a door in Church Bank.
The pair also visited a house in Meadow View, where the girl engaged a resident in conversation. The occupant later discovered someone had tried to break in through a rear window.
After leaving Eggleston the same pair are believed to have tried a similar technique in Stanhope.
The couple drove a dark car, believed to be a Renault Laguna. The male was 5ft 11in, slim, and in his late-teens. He had short, sandy hair, and was wearing a woollen jumper with blue and grey hoops.
The female was 5ft 3in, with dark hair tied up on top of her head. She was aged about 15, and had a round face and pale skin. She possibly had a speech impediment.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bishop Auckland CID on (01388) 603566.
