THE work of traditional mat-makers has gone on display at the library where they meet.
Durham Clayport Matters completed two terms of traditional mat-making classes last year at Durham Clayport Library, in the city's Millennium Place.
When the course was over, the members decided to continue meeting and they have now given a wall hanging to the library, which is run by Durham County Council.
It depicts all elements of the library's work and its place in the county. The hanging was made from recycled fabrics, including woollen blankets, tweeds, fancy fabrics and yarns, some of which were hand dyed.
Elsie Shaw, of the group, presented it to Patrick Conway, the county council's cultural services director, during a day-long demonstration of its work yesterday, which included spinning displays.
