A SCHOOL is celebrating after it was recognised for promoting healthy lifestyles for a second time.
St Godric's RC Primary School, Newton Hall, Durham, has again been awarded the County Durham and Healthy School Standard.
It reflects the school's commitment to promote good health in subjects across the curriculum.
Pupils can enjoy a range of extra activities, such as fencing, gymnastics, drama and football.
It is also becoming a member of the National Fruit Scheme. This will ensure children in reception classes and years one and two get a daily portion of fruit.
Health promotion specialist for young people Kim McGary, who presented the award, said: "I have been really impressed with the enthusiasm and interest which is very obvious in pupils and staff."
St Godric's Healthy School's Action Plan has a range of targets, including setting up a School Nutrition Action Group.
This group will drive forward healthy eating initiatives such as promoting the five-fruits-a-day message.
Headteacher Christine Coxon said: "We are delighted to receive this award for a second time as it underpins so many of our school developments, which place emphasis on the importance of good health."
