A NEW competition is encouraging musical youngsters to hit the right note.
Pupils aged seven to 11 from Pelton Community, Chester-le-Street CE andRedPrimary Schools in Chester-le-Street, and St Margaret's CE School in Durham, are taking part in a musical challenge.
The competition, devised by Pelton's performing arts director Edward Jackson, involves solo singing, choir and instrumental ensemble events.
It started last Wednesday and is due to finish on March 24.
In the first leg of the competition St Margaret's won the vocal solo and instrumental ensemble events - the school tops the table with five points - and Chester-le-Street CE won the choir event.
The next leg was due to take place on Wednesday at Chester-le-Street CE Primary School.
