PEOPLE have been invited to take an active part in shaping the future of their town centre.
Previous plans have concentrated only on Gatehead's shopping centre, but now people are being asked how the entire town centre should be redeveloped and revitalised.
From Monday, a brochure called Gateshead Town Centre - Changing For Good will begin dropping through every letterbox in the borough.
The 16-page document will suggest a number of possible changes, including providing better shops and public spaces, creating a lively and attractive public square, reducing the impact of through traffic and creating more cultural and leisure attractions.
Gateshead Council leader Mick Henry said: "Our vision for Gateshead is to create a successful, vibrant and attractive town centre. But to ensure we get it right, we need local people to be involved."
As part of the consultation exercise, an exhibition van will be in Trinity Square from Monday until Saturday, with three other displays in the foyer at Gateshead Civic Centre, Gateshead Central Library and at Gateshead College.
