Richmond Town Under-8s entertained Northallerton Town on a windswept Sunday morning at Richmond's Theakston Lane ground.
A good crowd, on such a cold morning, saw an entertaining game played by two committed teams. The early part of the game saw Richmond playing with a brisk wind at their backs.
Northallerton defended well in the early part of the half and it took a dazzling 40-yard run finished off by a powerful shot from Jake Mackelear to break the deadlock.
This set the tone and Adam Cocks finished off a fine first half performance with two more goals.
The second half saw Northallerton with the winds at their backs and they pushed on but were unable to find the breakthrough due to some fine defending by Sam Pickersgill, Jake Mackelear and Daniel Marquiss.
As Northallerton pushed on Richmond took advantage of the gaps that had been left. The Richmond midfield of Jake McBride and Josh Heslehurst worked tirelessly to provide good balls for their forwards Adam Cocks and Dylan Wardale. Adam Cocks, the Richmond captain, scored three further goals to seal a very fine 6-0 victory.
Richmond Town Under-14s entertained Coulby Newham in a rearranged league fixture. Goals from Sam Pritchard, Tom Stanwix, Gareth Love and Tom Keegan gave Richmond a four goal lead at half time. Sam Pritchard added a fifth shortly after half time. To their credit Coulby Newham kept battling away and were rewarded with two goals before Richmond completed the scoring with further goals from Tom Stanwix, Sam Pritchard and a last minute Gareth Love penalty.
Richmond Under-10s were at home to Thirsk. In the first game there was end to end action at the start. Then Richmond went on to dominate and just before half time Kevin Robinson scored a goal on the rebound from a Nick Armstrong shot from the distance. Richmond had further chances in the second half but failed to increase their lead from 1-0. Man of the match was James Henry for another strong performance on the right side. In the second match Richmond started stronger but before half time Thirsk went 1-0 up. Richmond again went out strong and when James Henry made a cutting run to the by-line and put in a cross, Kevin Robinson could not miss as he got his second for the day. The match finished 1-1 and man of the match was Thomas Larder for a great performance in midfield.
Richmond Under-12s travelled to Northallerton for the third time this season hoping for a good result to put them into their first cup final. In cold windy conditions Northallerton started the better team and were soon testing Robert Stanwix in the Town goal in place of the absent Luke Newton. It was mainly Northallerton who threatened to score in a game dominated by defences. The half finished goalless and the half time team talk had the desired result as Richmond started to impose themselves on the game. Midway through the half Tim Jackson put Richmond ahead with a left foot drive from the edge of the box. Richmond nearly went two up when a Tom Osborn shot went narrowly wide. Richmond were now pressurising Northallerton and had numerous corners, but they were unable to convert possession into goals. Northallerton then scored two late goals to again beat Richmond for the second time in a cup this season. Man of the Match was Zak Jackson for another outstanding performance at sweeper.
