Norton Under-10s A cruised into the league cup final with an emphatic 6-1 win against a battling Leven side.
Norton were two up within the first five minutes with goals from Matthew Johnson & Matthew Garbutt. Leven pulled one back through Millward, but Norton restored their two-goal advantage before half time, after some great passing of the ball tore open the Leven side for Matthew Garbutt to slot the ball home. In the second half, it was all Norton again with Nathun Mohun rising from the pack to head home a M Garbutt cross.
From a M Johnson corner, the Leven defence cleared the ball only for Matthew Simcox to hit the ball with some power straight into the top corner to put Norton 5-1 up. Matthew Garbutt scored 5 minutes from time to complete his hat-trick. Norton's defence of Nicky Thomas, Max Craggs and goalie Thomas Johnson were all in fine form. Man of the match for Leven was goalie Shaun Pattison who pulled off some good saves.
Ferryhill started well in an excellent match against Norton Under-10 B scoring direct from a corner. Once Norton settled, they started to play some good football. Jack Griffiths threw a quick ball to Tom Blakemore who set up Lewis Wing for a deserved equaliser. Ferryhill took a 2-1 half-time lead through a disputed penalty. Norton came out fighting and equalised with a well worked corner from Wing and Liam Woodhouse with David Roth scoring a great headed goal. Norton took the lead when David Chesser linked up with Josh Peaden who set up Wing for a cool finish. Ferryhill equalised in the last minute to make it 3-3.
Norton Under-11s progressed to the semi-final of the league cup with a 6-0 home win against a hard working Nunthorpe team. Callum Hassan opened the scoring after just 10 minutes with a great finish after a steel through ball. Robson then scored two quick goals after great build-up play involving Turner, Steel and Hassan. Turner then added another two, the first after running from the half-way line and the second from a delicate flick from a Hassan pass. Hassan's shot was parried by the keeper for Robson to complete his hat-trick. Norton made five changes in the second half and Nunthorpe battled really hard with both teams playing some good football. A great team performance with Callum Hassum particularly impressive.
Norton Under-13s A played well in the first half against Kader, although playing into quite a strong wind. The ball was kept on the ground and spread well in all areas of the pitch. Three goals for O'Sullivan and one for Roberts showed them to be in control of the game. Norton did not capitalise in the second half and they lost their discipline and shape. Although Bennett and Kennedy added to the tally, Kader got a deserved consolation goal with a sustained period of pressure late in the second half. Norton steadied and ran out convincing 6-1 winners.
Norton Under-13s B met North Ormesby in an evenly matched game for a place in the final. Ormesby opened the scoring with a penalty following the most obvious handball. Pollock stepped up to blast an unstoppable spot kick in off the underside of the bar. Norton then lost the ball trying to switch play and again Pollock punished them. Josh Edon getting a hand on his powerful strike but unable to keep it out. Edon did then pull off two terrific saves to keep the deficit to two. Norton finished the half strongly and didn't want to hear the whistle, but it went anyway with Ormesby 2-0 up. Second half, Norton picked up the pace straightaway, with all the football being played at the back. This confidence started to flow through the side and a great ball from Josh Simpson allowed Michael Bell in to slot home and begin Norton's comeback. A great ball from Cronesberry set Cook through and he beat a defender, switched onto his left and placed the ball neatly in the corner for 2-2. Ormesby stormed back and Riley hit a goal bound strike from the penalty spot, Steve Atkinson threw himself in the way and the ball cannoned off him, bouncing inches wide of Norton's post. It was Cook who turned up in the Ormesby box to beat two defenders, only to see his shot blocked, however the ball cannoned around and Cook got the decisive touch to send it past Sowerby and into the net. Final score was North Ormesby 2, Norton 3.
