Derwentside tasted tremendous success at the Northumberland & Durham Counties Youth Swimming Championships, despite some disappointing swims.
The team were able to win 46 medals between them including 21 gold, 12 silver, 13 bronze and top girl in the 17-18yrs age group went to Joanne Jackson, top boy 15-16 years age group went to Scott Hathaway while the team also won the club top team award as well as the Guy North Trophy which they shall keep for a year.
The Guy North Trophy is a new piece of silverware created in memory of Guy North, an ex-official who passed away after an illness.
Medal winners: Scott Hathaway 9 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze; Daniel Priestley 4 gold; Ciaran Hansen 2 gold, 1 bronze; Gerard Lidster 2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze; Robert Irwin 1 bronze; Philip Carter 1 silver, 2 bronze; Olivia Hope 1 silver 1 bronze; Kimberley Hope 1 bronze; Rebecca Golightly 4 silver, 2 bronze; Joanne Jackson 4 gold; Linda Rolfe 1 bronze; Rachael Hirst 1 silver, 2 bronze.
Final points: 1st Derwentside 275 points; 2nd City of Newcastle 198.5; 3rd Newburn 181.
