PLANS to build 62 flats were discussed yesterday.
Hambleton District councillors discussed the proposals from McCarthy and Stone, specialists in housing for the over-60s. The company wants to build the sheltered housing on the site of a Volvo garage, in Long Street,Thirsk.
Councillors approved the plan subject to conditions. They want more consultation carried out in the area surrounding the site and a puffin crossing to be provided across Long Street. They also want outstanding issues on the provision of affordable housing to be resolved before a decision notice is issued.
McCarthy and Stone had offered to pay £112,500 to the council to provide off-site affordable housing to comply with council policies.
