NS Bulls Head FC 1 St Mary's College OB 1: There was some joy at long last for bottom club Bull's Head when they held St. Mary's College to a 1-1 draw.
Bulls Head earned their first point of the season but will be disappointed they didn't take all three points with the College equalising with just thirty seconds remaining. St Marys had plenty of early possession but their final ball in the last third of the pitch was poor and they failed to trouble the Bulls keeper. With twenty minutes remaining in the half St Marys had three chance in quick succession to open their account but a mixture of good saves from the Bulls keeper John Hart and erratic finishing meant a 0-0 score line at half time. Bulls Head came out strongly after the break and started to create chances of their own with College keeper Thomas Straker yet again making a couple of fine saves to prevent Bulls taking the lead. Bulls finally broke the deadlock when a counter attack caught St Marys with too many players in a forward positions and Simon Nelson took full advantage. Nelson rounded the St Marys keeper but his shot from a tight angle hit the post and rebounded to Kyle Crooks who made no mistake from six yards out. Bulls looked to be heading for their first three pointer of the season when deep into injury time, Steve Kennan found Dave Aspery who headed home the equaliser.
British Steel Sports 0 Kings Head 4
At the top of the table there was no change with the top three sides all winning comfortably. British Steel Sports gave table topping Kings Head a scare when they had a shot cleared off the line in the twelfth minute but Kings Head responded quickly when Brian Crawley scored just two minutes later. Stephen Halpin hit the bar for Sports shortly before half time but they went further behind on the hour mark when Kings Head scored from a free kick. A scrambled goal minutes later put the Guisborough side well in control and ten minutes from they rounded off a fine performance when Crawley lashed home a free kick from twenty five yards out.
Middlesbrough Post Office 4 South Park Rangers 0
It was a similar scoreline for Middlesbrough Post Office although South Park Rangers to their credit were in the game till the last 15 minutes. The Posties took the lead on fifteen minutes when a Paul Davies free kick was deflected into the top corer of the net and they went further ahead on the half hour mark when a good build up ended with Davies crossing for full back Paul McGlade to volley home from the edge of the area. Having gone close on a number of occasions, John Symon finally opened his account when substitute David Pattison crossed from the right wing to Symons who beat his defender before calmly firing home. Ten minutes from Symon was on the mark again to finish off good work from Davies and Pattison with a diving header. For Rangers, Graham Watson came closest when he shot wide after the keeper had only partially saved a free kick in the final minute of the game.
Ennis Square 6 South Bank United 2
Four first half goals set Ennis on their way to victory with South Bank United struggling to get to grips with the Redcar side. Stephen Lee Gent was first to strike after being set up by Jonathan Kirk and minutes late Kirk got his name on the scoresheet when he converted from the penalty spot. Wayne Skelton added a third before Wayne Gent completed a devastating opening half for Ennis. United had a glimmer of hope when Graham Cousans pulled a goal back after John Webster's shot had only been partially saved by the Ennis keeper. Ten minutes remained when Gent restored Ennis's four goal advantage and although Jamie Dury scored with a twenty five yard free kick for United, substitute Dave Tait had the last word when broke through to score with the last kick of the game.
Coulby Newham 3 Stokesley 2
Despite turning a battling performance that saw them overcome a two goal deficit, Stokesley returned empty handed from Coulby Newham thanks to a late winner from Richie May. Craig Thomas broke the first half deadlock when headed home five minutes from half time and within minutes of the restart, Coulby went further ahead with a goal from May. Stokesley were anything but out of the game and deservedly pulled one back when right back James Mathias latched on to an inch perfect cross from left back Andrew Henderson with just fifteen minutes remaining. The visitors continued to press and substitute Gary Wilson brought them back on level terms when he ran into the box unchecked before scoring. Stokesley's hopes of taking something from the game were dashed however when May went through one on one to score with just minutes remaining.
PJS 2 Thornaby Village 6
Apart from the result, Thornbay Village's game against PJS was remarkable for the three penalties that the away side were awarded bringing their tally to seven penalty awards in three games. Things looked were very different early on in the game however as PJS took an early lead and Geoff Belt failed to take advantage of the first penalty decision. Belt made amends when he got on the end of a center from Jamie Shore but PJS regained their lead when a looping header ended up in the back of the net. Village countered well towards the end of the first half equalising when Shore converted penalty number two before pouncing on the rebound from a shot from Belt that hit the keeper. Belt gave Thornaby Village a two-goal lead early in the second half before David Murray was brought down for penalty number three. Murray made no mistake from the spot but it was his second goal that caught the eye. A quick through out from the Village keeper found Murray on the half way line and he turned his defender with a brilliant flick over his head. Murray then ran on ten yards before hitting a swerving twenty five yarder that gave the PJS keeper no chance.
Linx Hemlington 4 North Skelt. Vill. 2
Last weekend's other game saw Linx pick up the three points despite going behind after Mark Salvati had given them an early lead. North Skelton Village failed to hold on to their half time advantage however and three second half goals did the damage as Linx came back strongly.
North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup semi-final
Dormans FC 4 Thornaby Mandale 1
Mandale's determined defence of the North Riding Challenge Cup came to an end when they went down to Dormans. Mandale opened brightly but at the end of a closely fought opening 45 minutes, Dormans just shaded it thanks to a fierce drive from Jim McGowan. The Stokesley league side pressed forward for the equaliser but a Dorman's break ended with McGowan heading home. Another breakaway ended with Richie Boden slotting the ball into the bottom corner to increase Dorman's advantage before Mandale got some reward for their efforts when Andrew Dyson converted from the spot. Despite the scoreline, Gary Poole in the Mandale goal pulled off a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in the game but even he could not prevent Dominic Ingram slotting home a fourth.
Saturday's results: British Steel Sports 0 Kings Head 4; Coulby Newham 3 Stokesley 2; Ennis Square 6 South Bank United 2; Linx Hemlington 4 North Skelton Village FC 2; Middlesbrough Post Office 4 South Park Rangers 0; NS Bulls Head FC 1 St Mary's College OB 1; PJS 2 Thornaby Village 6.
