A GIRLS' school believes it has set up a unique musical scheme.
All 11 year two pupils at Teesside Prep School in Eaglescliffe are learning to play the violin.
Headteacher Mike Abraham said: "I don't know of any other schools where six-year-olds are learning the violin in this way.
"They are being taught using the highly successful and innovative Suzuki method, by visiting music teacher Michael Walton.
"The method gives very quick results and the girls will be able to take part in a concert next term and, ultimately, join the prep school orchestra.
"The lessons will continue for the rest of this school year and can then continue on an individual basis."
The school provides all the instruments and Mr Abraham said he would like to extend the lessons to other schools in the area.
He added: "It's all about giving them opportunities and the girls absolutely love it.
"Some of them could become very skilled musicians, but if you don't give them the opportunity they may never discover their talent.
"Once you give them the love of it, at that age they just fly."
Emma Kiczma-Walsh, who has just turned seven, said: "I like the sound and playing with the bow."
