The water opened to day permit holders on the first of March and although the first few days were bitterly cold, there were plenty of fish to be caught.
There has been very few signs of surface activity and it is expected to remain like this until the water warms up a little. Not surprisingly, lures have accounted for the majority of fish caught with anglers using intermediate or sink tip lines being particularly successful. Killing flies have been Dawson's olive, black lure, white tadpole, orange lure, black fritz and green fritz with the damsel nymph and black and peacock spider accounting for a few fish.
The biggest fish of the week went to day permit holder M Manley who caught and returned a rainbow in excess of 6lbs, but the catch of the week must go to club member Joe Salt, who caught and returned a 4.5lbs natural brownie, the biggest brown trout to come out of the reservoir in recent years. The rod average for the week was an encouraging 6.3.
