A ROOM warning children of the dangers of drugs has been unveiled at a doctor's practice.
The play area at Leadgate GP Surgery was redesigned by Millennium Volunteers as the Feel Good Room.
Volunteers from secondary schools redecorated and installed new furniture. The room aims to provide a bright, cheerful atmosphere for younger children to play and learn.
The project is part of the Feel Good roadshow drugs education programme, run by Derwentside Primary Care Trust.
The trust's health promotion officers worked with youngsters at three schools - Leadgate Infants, Leadgate Juniors and Our Lady and St Joseph's RCVA Brooms School.
The pupils composed their own song, designed the campaign logo and made props for the roadshow, which will tour primary schools across Derwentside.
One of those who took part was Joseph McMestry, six, of Brooms School, who also attended the launch of the Feel Good Room at the surgery.
His mother, Heather McMestry, of Hamsterley Colliery, said: "In this day and age, drugs education is very important, even for our young children. Joseph has really enjoyed the project and was very excited to be at the launch."
