STUDENTS from a special school have completed a training programme to help them into paid employment.
The youngsters from Beaumont Hill Special School, in Darlington, completed the Advance+ work preparation programme, which is part of the Advance Employment project delivered by Morrison Enterprise Trust in conjunction with Darlington Borough Council.
The programme aims to assist people with a learning disability to prepare for employment.
Participants have the opportunity to take part in work taster sessions in a job area of their choice.
They are encouraged to develop interview skills, build their confidence, write their own curriculum vitaes and take part in job searching and visits to employers.
One of the students in the group has already secured paid employment while the others have had further work taster sessions arranged and are looking at other relevant training.
Danielle Clothier, Laura Dinsdale, Robert Finlay, Vicky Lee, Andrew Meakin, Sarah Munro and Mark Shaw all received their certificates having successfully completed the programme.
The certificates were presented by Sheila Neasham, from Connexions Tees Valley. She has worked with programme tutor, Frances Carr to support students throughout the course.
