YOUNG hospital patients have received hundreds of new toys thanks to the generosity of bus passengers.
Keith Willans and John Bell, both drivers on Stagecoach buses, dressed as Father Christmas in December and collected money for the children's ward at the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton.
Representatives from the company visited the hospital this week to see how the £500 that was raised has been spent.
It has been used to buy games and toys, as well as four TV and video combination sets to accompany games consoles and allow youngsters to watch videos.
Debbie Harrison, the hospital play specialist, said: "Playing provides the perfect distraction for children at a time when they can be quite withdrawn or distressed.
"This latest donation enhances our efforts to meet the play and educational needs of all our patients and we are extremely grateful to Stagecoach for their generosity."
Paul Livesy, assistant divisional traffic manager at Stagecoach Stockton, said: "Our staff are always keen to support local charities and wanted to boost the excellent work that the local children's ward does. This visit enabled us to see first-hand how the donation has benefited and I am sure the new toys will provide many hours of entertainment in years to come."
