CONSTRUCTION equipment distributor HM Plant is creating 50 jobs in a £5m move.
The distributor of Hitachi construction equipment is moving its headquarters to a 6.75-acre site in Monkton Business Park, Hebburn, South Tyneside.
Work is under way on a 60,000sq ft depot with storage, technical and administrative facilities.
HM chairman John Jones, said: "This relocation is essential for the continued expansion of HM Plant.
"One of the main factors behind the move to the North-East was the opening of a new factory by our biggest supplier - Hitachi Construction Equipment - near Amsterdam in Holland.
"Hebburn provides easy access to the Port of Tyne's Dutch freight services and the A1(M) for ongoing transportation to our network of regional depots.
"One of the area's other great assets is its highly skilled, flexible, loyal and reliable workforce - factors that will continue to play a huge part in the success of HM Plant."
The deal was handled by Simon Haggie, industrial partner at property consultants Knight Frank, in Newcastle.
He said: "This is excellent news for South Tyneside. HM Plant's move north is a huge vote of confidence in the North-East in general, and Monkton Business Park in particular."
