Dunston went top of the First Division on Tuesday when they beat Jarrow Roofing at Federation Park.

Dunston produced one of their best performances of the season, hitting the woodwork three times.

They took the lead with a shot by Micky Farrey after 44 minutes, and just after half time David Southern scored the second from a free kick.

Billingham Town have now gone five games without a win after they drew 0-0 with Guisborough at Bedford Terrace, the point lifting Guisborough further away from the bottom three.

Marske's cause is now looking increasingly hazardous at the bottom of the table after they lost 2-0 at home to Peterlee.

The visitors took the lead with a wind-assisted clearance by Calvin Foley which sailed over everybody's heads into the net and even though they played against the elements in the second half, Peterlee got another through David Yale.

Tow Law picked up a valuable point at Morpeth in what turned out to be Steve Smith's last game in charge.

Morpeth took the lead through Paul Beavers but Carl Beasley pulled a goal back with two minutes left.

Ashington are top of the Second Division after results went in their favour on Tuesday night.

They beat Hebburn 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mark Campbell, while Consett were held to a 1-1 draw at Evenwood. Paul Terrell put Consett into the lead but Evenwood levelled through John-Charles Gott late on.

Newcastle Benfield Saints stay third with a 5-2 home win over Crook Town. Paul Freeman and John Shotton scored twice for Crook who were level 2-2 at one stage.

Shotton are looking increasingly doomed at the bottom after they lost 4-2 at Kennek Ryhope CA. Jonny Wightman took his tally for the season to 20 with a hat-trick for Ryhope, with Phil Bell scoring the other. David Pittam and Jamie Arthur replied for Shotton.

Norton are through in the Craven Cup after they came from behind to win 3-2 at Willington.

The home side, with the wind behind them, led 2-0 at half time through a pair of goals from Dean Grayson, but Norton levelled in the second half through Dan Pilling and Lee Farrington, and then won it with the wind at their backs thanks to a golden goal from Chris Garbutt.

Billingham Synthonia are through to the semi finals of the league cup with a 2-1 win at Esh Winning. Andy Fletcher volleyed them into the lead with the help of a deflection after 11 minutes, but Tony Healer headed an equaliser at the start of the second half. Fletcher snatched victory for Synners with a header from Neil Radigan's corner late on.

Penrith beat Alnwick 5-4 on penalties in the other quarter final after the teams played two hours without a goal.

On Wednesday Bedlington won 4-1 at Washington. Chris McKenzie put them in front from the penalty spot just before half time but Trevor Ball equalised. Goals from Robbie Cockburn, Ian Dixon and Tony Chapman gave them the points.

In the second division, Washington Nissan now appear to be the only realistic challenge to Benfield Saints when they beat Newcastle Blue Star 3-2, Jimmy Farrell, making his return debut after signing from Tow Law, scoring the winner. David Tate and Andrew Allen scored for Nissan, with Chris Rue replying twice.

Seaham Red Star moved away from the bottom five with a 3-0 home win over South Shields, Andy Lumsden (2) and Kevin Dixon scoring.

Northallerton revived their hopes of a top eight finish when they beat Prudhoe 2-0, with goals from Ross Foreman and David Onions.

Whickham won 2-0 at Hebburn, Ian Robson scoring both goals.

Durham City made it to the semi finals of the league cup when they won 2-1 at Brandon. Justin Keegan and Gavin Mudd put Durham 2-0 up, before Steve Huggins scored.

The league cup quarter final between Morpeth and Dunston is due to be played next week
