Planet Snooker Premier League - After a spectacular win against Jimmy White last week in a local exhibition match, charismatic David Craggs was keen to please a packed Tow Law Club with a good display against Andy Craig of Stanley.

Craggs, 28, however, lost the opening frame with some slack safety but bounced back to level. After Craggs compiled a break of 40, Craig showed his fighting quality when he took the point on a re-spotted black. Craig then put in a 44 break but Craggs fought back to level the scores at 2-2.

Craig must have wished the interval had never happened for Craggs came out with all guns firing, knocking in breaks 50 in the fifth, two breaks over 30 and a 33 clearance in the sixth, and a 68 in the final frame to win the match 5-2 to become joint league leader with Michael Rhodes.

Joint leader, Rhodes, played host to Spennymoor's Paul Davison at Durham Snooker Club, where both play their home matches. Rhodes started the match with breaks of 70 and 47 in the first and second frames but Davison reduced the deficit to one frame after knocking in 72. In the fourth, Davison could only sit and watch as Rhodes equalled Davison's highest break in the league of 112.

Davison took the opening frame after the break to close the gap to one frame. Rhodes managed a 46 break in the sixth frame, but Davison replied with 51 to take the point. Rhodes, however showed why he is climbing the professional ranks when he finished in style with a break of 57 to win the match 4-3.

David Lilley was hoping his fortunes had changed after last weeks home defeat by Craggs, when he visited the Hartlepool league champion, Michael Rudd. The first four frames ended all square in tight safety conscious encounters. Rudd lifted the standard in the fifth after compiling a winning break of 76 to take the frame. Lilley's dogged consistency pulled him back level in the next. Lilley got the first opening in the last and managed to pocket an unbelievable red ball on 46 points to continue his break, which eventually ended on 86, to give him an odd point success.

Ashington's John McCallum and his large entourage of dedicated supporters travelled to the Ormesby Club to take on Guisborough's Anthony Parsons. Parsons showed considerable skill in making breaks of 63, 51 and 77, but although John only managed one break over 40, his vast experience of the game shone and he took the match 4-3.

The match between Wallsend Warrior, Gary Wilson and Mike Dunn (Redcar) was postponed due to Mike's commitments as a director of World Snooker.
