AN appeal to create a sensory room for people with Alzheimer's disease is half way to its target.
The Durham and Chester-le-Street branch of the Alzheimer's Society is marking the charity's 25th anniversary with a £5,000 fund-raising drive and has raised £2,400 so far.
The money will be spent on a sensory room at its day care centre at The Green in Nettlesworth.
The room will help people with dementia retain their faculties as long as possible and provide stimulation and enjoyment.
Day care manager Debbie Keenan said: "This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Alzheimer's Society and we think this is a fitting project to mark this occasion.''
People can contribute to the appeal by calling 0191-389 0400 or on the www.alzheimers-durham.org.uk website
