A YOUTH orchestra performed its first concert yesterday.
The inaugural performance by the Darlington and Dales Youth Orchestra took place at St Cuthbert's Church, in Darlington town centre.
It followed a successful spring term that saw 25 youngsters from Darlington and the surrounding area brought together to rehearse orchestral music.
The group is the first of its kind in the area.
The concert was conducted by Chris Griffiths, who plays French horn with the Northern Sinfonia.
The performance included works by Haydn and Mendelssohn, as well as the premiere of Ringing the Changes, a piece featuring the Kirkby Stephen Primary School bellringers.
The orchestra's next term starts on September 26, with auditions for all instruments being held shortly before that date.
