POLICE are appealing for the driver of a car involved in a collision with a BMX bicycle to come forward.
The accident happened in Washington Crescent, Newton Aycliffe, between 8pm and 8.30pm on Sunday.
The car, which pulled out of a parking bay behind Bell's Stores, had travelled a few feet when it was in a collision with a bike ridden by a 16-year-old pupil at Woodham Community Technology College.
The driver stopped and took the youngster to his home in School Aycliffe, but left after dropping him off.
The boy was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment to a broken leg.
A spokesman for Newton Aycliffe police said: "While the driver will have known that the boy was injured, he may not have realised quite how badly and we would like to speak to him as a matter of urgency."
Police were last night still waiting to speak to the youngster and were in the process of studying security camera footage to see if the incident was captured on film.
The description of the car is vague, believed to be light green or silver in colour and possibly a Vauxhall Corsa or Rover 25.
The driver, or anyone else who may have information, is asked to contact PC Jason Quye on (01325) 314401.
