councillors have rejected a scheme to enhance a market town's shopping square after fears it could become a target for anti-social behaviour.
Dunsmore Estates had wanted permission to alter the layout of Eastgate Square, Pickering, with a landscaping scheme.
Paul Elm, for the company, told Ryedale District Council the scheme would make the square more appealing to both would-be tenants and the public.
But six residents objected, saying it could result in young people congregating and causing trouble, a view back-ed by the planning officers.
