THE widow of a community stalwart yesterday unveiled a seat dedicated to his memory.
Arthur Boynton, who died last July, ran a fish and chip shop in Heighington, near Darlington, with his wife, Rosemary, for 20 years.
He was a popular figure in the village after retiring, selflessly doing his bit for the local environment.
Mr Boynton spruced up the churchyard and bus shelters, watered flower tubs and often removed graffiti.
Donations made after his death have now led to the memorial seat being installed in Highside Road.
Mrs Boynton said: "My husband did so much around the village, all voluntarily."
