A SHOWMAN is aiming to bring some nostalgia back to villages in the region with a traditional funfair.
Paul Evans, of Carnival Funfairs, in Spennymoor, wants to bring some of the atmosphere and community spirit back to villages in the North-East and North Yorkshire.
With a first booking at Heighington in May, locals will be able to try the coconut shy, and hook a duck, as well as try other attractions on the village green.
Having been in the business for 12 years, Mr Evans is hoping his funfair will take people back to their childhoods and introduce a new generation to the joys of tin can alley, the Funtasia Funhouse and Alice in Wonderland ride.
"It's about traditional family entertainment, not the screaming waltzers and white-knuckle rides people tend to associate with funfairs now, he said.
"I want people to take a trip down memory lane. All villages used to have a fete day or funfair, but it's in decline. I want to bring that tradition back to life."
The funfair will be in Heighington village, from 6pm to 8.30pm, on Thursday and Friday May 13 and 14 and all day on Saturday, May 15.
