SCHOOLBOY wizard Harry Potter continued to cast his spell over publishing house Bloomsbury last year.

The company, based in London, said record-breaking sales of JK Rowling's fifth instalment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, helped generate strong annual figures, including a 38 per cent rise in pre-tax profits

Bloomsbury hopes the relaunch of specially-designed editions of the book will allow the book appeal to the adult market.

The release of the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will also be celebrated by a special edition, and all new releases will be backed up by a strong marketing campaign to ensure the series lasts for many years to come, Bloomsbury said.

The company announced strong performances from titles across all three of its publishing divisions - children, adult and reference.
