GAVIN Strachan is back in training, but is ready to take things easy this time.

The influential Hartlepool United midfielder hobbled off at Sheffield Wednesday on February 14 with knee trouble.

He hoped a period of rest would cure the problem, but his comeback against Chesterfield a little over a fortnight later was cut short.

Strachan was replaced minutes into the second-half, after suffering a reaction.

Fears he would need surgery which could rule him out for the rest of the season proved unfounded, and a return to training last week has seen Strachan ease his way back.

With Neil Danns settling into the Pool midfield and Darrell Clarke waiting in the wings, boss Neale Cooper doesn't have to rush Strachan back.

He admits he is unlikely to be ready for Saturday's home game with Brentford and Strachan said: "I've had a good couple of days' training and it feels good.

"I'm not going to be rushing back this time.

"I know I needed to give my leg a longer rest and it feels really good."
