children and their parents can find out more about the natural world this weekend.
The Bursting Buds event, in Blackhill and Consett Park, aims to provide a fun environment for families to enjoy its plant life, as spring begins to bloom.
It follows the success of a bird-spotting day in the park last month.
Derwentside Leisure has printed a colourful leaflet featuring descriptions, pictures and flow charts, to help children distinguish between species of trees, plants and flowers.
Park staff will also be on hand to answer any questions.
Further events are planned for the park over the Easter school holidays, starting with bird spotting on Monday, April 5, between 1.30pm and 3pm.
Over the fortnight, there will also be tree finding, an Easter egg hunt and lantern making with the Mad Alice Theatre Company.
Bursting Buds takes place in the park on Saturday, from 10am to noon, starting from the bandstand. Admission is free.
