EDUCATION chiefs are to invest £6.3m in upgrading schools across a North-East borough this year.
Darlington Borough Council has announced plans to replace Alderman Leach and Skerne Park primary schools.
The money will also be used for refurbishment projects, building repairs and improving accessibility at other schools.
A total of £125,000 will be spent modernising Heathfield, Mount Pleasant and Gurney Pease primaries, Abbey infants, Mowden infants and juniors, Hurworth primary and comprehensive and Branksome comprehensive.
Other projects include asbestos removal at Reid Street Primary and installation of window frames and doors at Bishopton and Redmarshall Primary.
The programme of work is expected to be approved at a meeting of the council's cabinet on Tuesday.
