LOOK North presenter Carol Malia has won the top award in a competition.
The BBC Nations and Regions Ruby Awards honour the achievements of the BBC's daily television news programmes.
Ms Malia received the Ruby award for best presenter of regional television news in a ceremony held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
Acting director general of BBC, Mark Byford, presented her with the award.
Look North reporters Peter Lugg and Mark Egan also received a Ruby award for broadcast of diversity issues.
Reporter Dean Arnett received a bronze award for the best use of new digital camera and editing production for Look North, which is broadcast on BBC One every day at 6.30pm.
The Ruby Awards ceremony was named last year to mark 40 years of regional television news broadcasting by the corporation.
Wendy Pilmer, head of BBC in the North East and Cumbria, said: "Viewers in the region already recognise Carol's natural style and unique combination of authority and warmth, but it's great that people across the UK now also recognise this."
