Invitation Trophy Semi-Final
Hole In The Wall 3, DGSOB 2 (aet)
The game was played in almost a gale force wind that threatened to cause a postponement but both teams were happy to play and with both sets of players exercising common sense a thrilling match ensued. The team playing into the wind always had difficulty clearing their lines and with the wind at their backs it was inevitable that Old Boys would open the scoring which they did on the half hour mark with a shot from distance which flew into the top corner of the net. Wall levelled four minutes later when Kevin Cox's free kick was headed into his own net by veteran defender Steven Bolland. However back came Old Boys and another long-range effort gave them a half-time lead. Despite several close shaves there was no more scoring until seven minutes from time when David Todd hit a high ball into the box from around halfway and Steven Chandler misjudged the flight and allowed the ball to squirm from his hands into the net to take the game into extra time. With the conditions worsening both teams struggled to cope but Wall gradually gained the upper hand and with the prospect of a penalty shoot-out looming Gary Wilson flew down the right wing in the last minute, crossed to the far post where Mario Scott bundled the ball. home. Wall will meet Heighington in the final on a date to be arranged.
