THE driver at the wheel of an Arriva service bus involved in the death of an elderly pedestrian in Durham City is facing a driving charge, more than a year after the tragedy.
Robert Harvey, 62, of Langley Park, who has retired since the accident, is accused of driving without due care and attention.
Jenny Spedding, an 86-year-old widow, of Local Avenue, Sherburn Hill, near Durham, died from multiple injuries in the incident in Durham, on February 24.
Mr Harvey was suspended after the accident and retired last May of his own accord.
He is due to appear before North Durham magistrates sitting at Consett on Monday, April 5.
At an inquest in November into her death, North Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle returned a verdict that Mrs Spedding was unlawfully killed.
